Tips to Finish Strong in the Last 90-Day Stretch of 2023

With only 90 days left in the calendar year, it’s time for the final push! We are giving you the best kept secrets to finishing your MIPS year on a high and avoid up to 9% in penalties. These last few months will fly by before you know it, so we will keep this short and sweet.

Tips to End the Year Strong:

1.      Complete all of your Promoting Interoperability measures - you have a 90-day window, so start as soon as possible - no later than October 3rd.

2.      Check your quality measure scores - this is your greatest opportunity to earn points, so be diligent!

3.      Continue collecting quality measure data - every measure, every patient, every time! You should be documenting this data all the way up until the last day of the year.

4.      Ensure your security risk analysis is completed. Your EMR vendor does NOT do this for you, it is your responsibility. Be sure to address all aspects for administrative, physical and technical requirements across each location! This scoreless prerequisite is very important and not something to just “check the box” on.

5.      If you have not done the appropriated number of improvement activities make sure you start them on or before October 3rd to ensure category compliance. Also, if you’re reporting as a group more than 50% of all providers need to be doing the activity.

6.      Close gaps on quality measure, where possible before December 31st! If you can see gaps in data collection for certain measures and encounters and have the time and means to close quality gaps, do so before the year ends.

7.      Build your annual book of evidence. This step plays a critical role now and for years to come in the event of an audit!

8.      Have a plan in place for how you will submit data for each category. Will you be waiting for your EMR vendor to submit for you? Will you report some data to QPP online and need a login or password update? Or maybe your registry will do it all. Whatever the case may be, document how and where you will report data.

9.      Prepare for your deadlines. Reporting anything via QPP usually starts right around New Year’s Day and must be submitted by March 31, 2024. Vendors and registries are all unique though. So, create a checklist so you don’t overlook a reporting deadline or miss out on critical MIPS points.

There’s no time to waste, every day is crucial now to ensure the best possible outcome in your MIPS 4th quarter. Whether you have been with us for years or you are new to all of this, we can help you answer any questions you may have in these final days. Even with just 90 days, there is still plenty you can do to mitigate plenty of the 9% penalty, but don’t delay. Ask how we can assist you today!
