2017 MIPS Scores Have Been Publicly Released

In May 2019, we shared a blog about the upcoming public release of 2017 Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) scores for eligible clinicians. Well, last week CMS published them!

This means eligible clinician’s MIPS scores can be used by, well anyone now. Yelp, ZocDoc, and Healthgrades just to name few. While the data is retrospective it is one of the most transparent ways to examine a physician’s performance around Improvement Activities, Promoting Interoperability, and Quality and soon Cost.

You may want to use this information to promote how well your physicians or practice did in the program. Or you may want to use your results to think about how you can perform better this year and in the future.

It’s a safe bet to say that MIPS is here to stay. In fact, the 2020 Proposed QPP rules were released recently and the stakes are only getting higher. In 2020, the minimum threshold to avoid a penalty is rising to 45 points. To be considered an exceptional performer,  you will need to have a score of 80 points or higher!
