The Case for 2022 MIPS Participation

MIPS was created by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as a way to promote quality care and cost-efficiency in the Medicare system. Eligible physicians and clinicians can participate in MIPS by reporting on quality measures, using certified EHR technology, and submitting other data.

Participation in MIPS has a number of benefits for physicians and clinicians. By reporting on quality measures, MIPS participants can show that they are providing high-quality care to their patients. In addition, MIPS provides financial incentives for cost-efficient care, which can help participants save and make money on their Medicare payments. Finally, MIPS data is used by CMS to improve the overall quality of care in the Medicare system.

MIPS participation is voluntary, but physicians and clinicians who do not participate may be subject to financial penalties. For this reason, it is important for eligible physicians and clinicians to understand the MIPS program and decide whether or not it is right for them. There are even commercial payers, like UHC, that adjust reimbursement of physicians and practice who are out of network based on their Medicare MIPS score.
